Parashuram had no patience. Soon, a tussle started between him and Ganesha. Kartikey tried to stop the fight between them. But, neither of them would budge. Parashuram used his axe to assault Ganesha, but Ganesha averted the attack. Parashuram continued the attack, whereas Ganesha refused to step back. Finally, Parashuram hit at Ganesha’s tusk with the divine axe. Ganesha let Parashuram strike him, as he was aware that Parashuram’s axe was a gift from his father to the sage. The axe broke his left tusk. Ganesha let out a yell. Mother Parvati rushed out to her son. She saw Ganesha’s suffering and was very angry with Parashuram. Shiva, too, joined them. Shiva tried to placate Parvati. Parashuram pleaded for forgiveness and prayed to Ganesha. Ganesha forgave Parashuram. “From now on, you shall be known by the name of Ekdant (with one tooth). Your broken tusk will be used in writing the great epic Mahabharat,” Parashuram blessed Ganesha.
