The Drawing

Mary said, “I’m bored.” “Why don’t you draw a picture?” suggested Mom. “Of what?” asked Mary. “Why don’t you draw a picture of a snowman,” said Mom. So, Mary started drawing. First, she drew three balls, one on top of the other. Then she started drawing two blue eyes when a strange but magical thing happened. The two eyes winked at her. Exclaimed Mary, “I must be seeing things!” She then drew a mouth. Again, a strange but magical thing happened. This time, the lips twitched. Mary said to herself, ‘Drawings can’t move.’ “Not any old drawing but a magical one can. Merry Christmas!” someone said, “Who said that?” asked Mary. The voice said, “I am the snowman you drew. You were bored today and I decided that I would cheer you up.” From that day on, whenever Mary was bored, she pulled out her drawing of the snowman and that would brighten her day.
