Known popularly by her stage name, Mata Hari was an exotic dancer and courtesan of Dutch Frisian origin who started her performances in Paris. Her fame grew until 1915, around which time she was known to have relations with high-ranking military and government officials. By 1917, she was arrested, tried and executed in France for being a spy for Germany during World War-I.
