Margaretha Geertruida MacLeod, popularly known as Mata Hari, was born on the 7th of August 1876 in Netherlands and passed away on 15th October, 1917.

Do you know that by using her name as a dancer Mata Hari entered the world of espionage, and is thus very often considered by many as a Femme Fatale?

Known popularly by her stage name, Mata Hari was an exotic dancer and courtesan of Dutch Frisian origin who started her performances in Paris. Her fame grew until 1915, around which time she was known to have relations with high-ranking military and government officials. By 1917, she was arrested, tried and executed in France for being a spy for Germany during World War-I.
