Stupa of Sanchi

The Stupa of Sanchi was built in the town of Sanchi, in Madhya Pradesh, India, between the 3rd century BC and the 12th century AD.
The oldest stone structure in India, the Stupa is known as an extraordinary work of the Buddhist art and architecture. The Stupa is a dome-like structure measuring approximately 12.29 metres in height. Originally built by Emperor Ashok, gradual additions were made to the structure over the centuries.

Amazing Fact: Almost all the statues and carvings within the Stupa still retain the original polish from the Mauryan period.
