Prevention is better than cure

Origin
This proverb was first seen in 1630.
Explanation
It is better to stop something bad from happening than it is to deal with it after it has happened. It’s better to take care that a problem does not happen than to solve the problem afterwards. If a doctor advises the patient not to eat curd as the patient has cough, it becomes the duty of the patient to prevent from eating/taking curd rather than to take medicine for the cough after consuming curd. It is easier to prevent something from happening than to undo the damage later. In other words, it is more useful to treat a problem in time than to seak a remedy after the damage is done.
