The Revenge

Lalaji’s death was not reconcilable for the hot minded young revolutionaries of Hindustan Socialist Republican Army. Bhagat Singh in particular was incensed. It was a great humiliation meted out to the people of India by aliens, he said. The young people could not take it lying down. They wanted to take revenge to prove to the British that Indian youth knew how to and had the courage to settle scores.
So, a plan was hatched to kill S.S.P. Scott who the revolutionaries thought was responsible for the outrage at the railway station on that day which resulted in the death of the most popular leader of Punjab.
On 17th December, 1928, exactly one month after the death of Lala Lajpat Rai, revolutionaries took their revenge. They struck outside the police headquarter. But S.P. Sanders was shot dead mistaken for S.S.P. Scott. Anyway, it mattered little because Sanders was as much guilty of hurting Lala Lajpat Rai as Scott. The plan was deftly executed by Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Jaigopal, Chandra Shekhar Azad and Sukhdev.
After shooting S.P. Sanders ‘HSRA’ issued a poster notice which read—
HINDUSTAN SOCIALIST REPUBLICAN ARMY NOTICE
BEWARE OFFICIALDOM
In killing of Sanders the death of Lala Lajpat Rai has been avenged.
It greatly pains to think how a petty official like Sanders’ dirty hands took away the life of a leader respected by 30 crore people. This national insult was a challenge to the Indian youth and men.
Today world has seen that Indian people are not lifeless creatures. Indian blood is not frozen and they can die for the nation. This proof has given by the youth who are criticized by the national leaders.
Later, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev were awarded death sentence for Sanders’ killing.
