Let’s say that you start at a point; for name’s sake, we will call it A’ville. You walk a total of 5 metres forward and have a rest. You then walk 3 metres backward (i.e. back towards A’ville) and have another rest. You set out again and walk a further 10 metres forward and take a much longer rest after such a long journey. You then take another walk of 5 metres backward and take your final rest, before completing your very strange journey walking a final 3-metre forward and reach your destination of B’ville.
The question is: How far have you travelled since departing A’ville?
Answer
26 metres. If you were stumped, carefully re-read my question “How FAR have you TRAVELLED since departing”? The distance you have travelled would be the combination of all your movements added together which is 5+3+10+5+3=26 metres. If your answer was 10 metres then you have answered the question of “How far is B’ville from A’ville?”
