Old age and memory crisis

As a man grows old, a striking change is seen in his manner of eating, drinking, and socialising. His memory too is affected. He tends to fall into fits of forgetfulness. His ability to learn and acquire new skills goes down. This is generally ascribed to degeneration of neurons—the nerve cells. Yet this cellular damage is only a drop in oceon cosidering immense capacity of these cells to process and store information. This explains whey memory loss in old age in benign and not significant. Even so, there is a way out to avoid even minimal loss of memory at the fag end of one’s life time. All it needs is some care on following counts : ❑ First of all, don’t entertain fears of a possible low-down. You are as young as you feel. The moment you feel you are old, you tend to live this thought by action. Like moaning—I can’t do it—I am an old man. This impairs your memory adversely, your self esteem takes a noose dive, and you feel down and out.
❑ Take recourse to yoga, meditation and exercise every day. It will release you from tension, and unfold your hidden talents.
❑ Plan your daily activities and keep them in order and fine fettle. A loose routine lowers your memory power.
❑ Keep a personal diary to note down routine course of action and important development of personal and professional arena. This will keep your memory ticking. And, at the end of it all, your diary would be a blue print of your autobiography.
❑ Always remain in touch with your near and dear ones, especially with children and the youth. This will keep you young and energetic, and make your memory strong.
Now time has come to have a relook on old age and geniatrics. Infact mental senility precedes physical down slide. Hence the popular perception of burdensome old age must change. Aging is not to be feared but lived—fully and energetically at that. Work and act as if aging is alien to you. You will be surprised to see that you remain young at heart despite of silver in hair and wrinkles on face.
