It is common knowledge that even as people mix up so well and thoroughly in get together, they tend to forget names of new acquaintances after a brief while. When they meet that familiar face in distant time, they are at a loss to call him by name which just doesn’t prop in their memory no matter how desperately they try. No doubt, it’s a hard job if you must remember names of 10-15 strangers introduced to you in first instance. Yet there are people who can do just this, and much more. They just don’t seem to forget any one they meet or come across.
You too can acquire such keen memory with little exercise and practice. If you wish to remember people, their names, for a long long time, pay attention to the following tips.
❑ When you meet someone for the first time, listen carefully to his/her name. Thereafter workout what that name means literally. At the same time recall of words which are similar sounding or convey a similar meaning.
❑ Call that person by name, and have a light talk on what his/her name connotes in terms of language as well as community (surname). Address them by their name all through your meeting, and ask them imploring and riveting questions.
❑ As you meet someone for the first time, get memorising his/her name rather than be distracted by on to the task of clothes and shoes worn by him/her.
❑ All through you interaction, address the other party by his/her name. In case the person is a senior citizen or a VIP, and his/her introduction hasn’t gone well as you, you can very politely request for a second help. Like, for example, you meet Professor Gupta but in the melee of gathering couldn’t get to hear him, you may seek his pardon and request him repeat his good name for your sake. This would indeed make his name go deep down into your memory.
❑ For all the new faces encountered in a party meeting, make a note of their peculiarities and eccentricities. Let these telltale signs be recorded in your mind for good. This may remain in picture form or in words depending on your discretion. Say for example, someone told you his name as Mahesh. Now, what does Mahesh mean? It means Lord Shiva or Shanker. Thus you may see that person in the garb of Lord Shiva seated in ranges of Kailash Mountain, with long matted hair tied up in a knot, neck wrung by snakes, and holding a trident in hand. This allegory will etch the name (and person) Mahesh in your mind as resolutely as memory of Lord Shiva itself.
❑ Most important of all whenever you go to a party or galagathering, leave tension and inferiority complex behind. These two-some are awesome for your self confidence. When you are low on self confidence, you loose on acutely of hearing, understanding, and memorising.
If you pay heed to these above directions, you will find it easy to remember names and faces without much difficulty.
