We see the influence of science in every walk of life. The wonders of science are a reality. If our forefathers were to visit this land now, they would hardly believe that it is the same world that they had left. They would think it to be a fairy-land. We grow and cook our food with the help of science. Our houses are lighted, cooled and heated by science. Our transport is provided by science. We find the blessings of science every where.
Electricity is the wonder of wonders. It is the most important creation in this world of ours. It is the greatest blessing of science. It cooks, washes, lights, warms and propels our machines. Electricity lifts for us the heavy weights, runs our factories, diagnose internal diseases. It cools us in summer and warms us in winter. It is, in short, the hand-maid of all.
Science has brought a revolution in the means of transport. From the bullock-cart of the ancient world it has come to the jet aeroplanes of the 21st century. The bicycles, motor-cycles, scooters, cars, buses and trucks, trains, planes and ships are all gifts of science. Science has reduced the distance between one country and another. All the nations of the world have become our next door neighbours. The world has become smaller. Even the space has been conquered by the space flights.
Fast communication is another great wonder of science. The telegraph, the telephone, the wireless, the radio, the teleprinter and the television are at our service. A man broadcast from England and America and we can hear his voice and see him on the television set. A cricket match takes place in far away country and we enjoy it sitting in out drawing room. Thus, time and distance have been conquered by science.
Science has worked wonders in the field of medicine and surgery. Delicate parts of the body can be operated upon and replaced. X-ray and scanning can find out the hidden things in the body of man.
Science has given eyes to the blind, legs to the lame, ears to the dear and tongues to the dumb. Last but not the least it can change the human sex.
Science has reduced the working hours of man. It provides many sources of entertainment, such as the cinemas, books, newspaper and magazines.
Thus, we can say if used and guided properly with the intention to serve the mankind, science really proved a boon.
