Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan was one of the greatest scholars of India. He was elected as the President of India due to his inner wisdom and qualities. Radhakrishnan was born on September 5, 1888.
He was a very brilliant student. He topped both his B.A. and M.A. examinations. Thereafter he opted for the teaching profession. Initially he was appointed as the Assistant Professor of Philosophy in the Madras Presidency College. Later, he was made the vice-chancellor of Andhra University. He also worked as an Indian Ambassador to Russia, before becoming the President of India.
Dr. Radhakrishnan was a teacher par-excellence. He would teach about the purpose of God-gifted life. He said that nothing in the world was accidental. There is a reason of everything. God is the creator and operator of the entire universe. He eliminates our sins and saves us from all evils, if we worship him with faith.
He added that it was essential to practice continuously to achieve success in life. Practice makes a man perfect. The one who learns from his mistakes and corrects them can attain true success in life. One must not accept defeat but keep on struggling hard till he achieves this goal.
He attributed that one should not quarrel and fight over religion. Everything and everybody in the universe is part of God and thus has to reach one and the same destination one day.
If the abode is one and the destination is the same, then why do we quarrel over religion. In fact all the religions teach different ways to reach one and the same God thus, one should not fight, but live with peace and harmony. He was a great patriot. He believed that one must not fear to sacrifice his life for the sake of his nation, whenever the need arise. He said that the country should be given priority after God.
Dr. Radhakrishnan was a great teacher in words and deeds. He practiced what he preached, and preached what he practised.
He made his journey to heavenly abode on 17 April, 1975.
His birthday 5th Septemeber is observed as Teacher’s Day as a mark of respect to this great symbol of love and truthfulness.
