‘Man does not live on bread alone’ is quite right but it is hundred per cent true proverb. To eat, drink and be merry is not the complete meaning of life. We do not live to eat; instead, we eat and rise and discover new things. Man is not just a body. He has a mind and a soul. He is much superior to animals who have no emotions, no lofty aims and ambitions, no concept of religion and God. It is wrong to feed the body with bread and starve the soul. We need hundreds of other things besides a loaf of bread and wine. We need food for mind and more values for the spirit. We feel the need for love, charity and friendship. We also need God who alone can sustain us at the times of misery and defeat. It is unfortunate that man, in this age, is running only after material things. His moral degradation is sure to destroy this human race. Apart from material things we are also responsible to bear the spiritual responsibilities.
