I have a great liking for the Ramayana. It is my favorite book. I read it in order to learn some noble lessons. The Ramayana is full of wisdom. It contains a lot of useful advice. Mahatma Gandhi also liked this book. He regarded Rama to be an ideal man, ideal king, ideal husband, ideal brother and ideal son. That is why he was eager to set up ‘Ram Rajya’ in this country.
The Ramayana is the story of the life of Rama and his family. Rama was an ideal son. He obeyed his father and mother. He went to the forest for the 14 years. His noble wife, Sita also went with him. Lakshman was an ideal brother. He remained by his side through thick and thin. His sacrifice inspires the readers.
Bharat was also a loyal brother. He was not at all selfish. He ruled over the kingdom for 14 years on behalf of Rama. Though he was a king for 14 years yet he lived like a servant of Rama.
The Ramayana tells us the story of the victory of good over evil. The path of truth and goodness leads to glory. Ravana, the demon king of Lanka, was full of evil. He was proud and cruel. He troubled the good and noble persons. He took away Sita to Lanka. Rama had to fight against him. Ravana and his companions were killed at last. The Hindus celebrate Dussehra every year and burn the effigies of these bad persons.
In this way, we can learn that ultimately good and noble persons win in this world. We should also remain good and noble forever.
