6. Clove (Laung) (Part I)

Clove is cool, stimulant of skin, kidney, liver, bronchi and increases circulation and raises blood heat. It is aromatic, general stomachic, anti-emetic, local anaesthetic and antiseptic. It is carminative, anti-gastric, anti-flatulent, anti-phlegmatic, pain killer and anti-pyritic.
Curative Properties
Stomach Problems
Taking 2 or 3 drops of clove oil in sugar cures indigestion, intestinal problems and also diarrhoea.
Taking cloves as flavouring agent corrects griping caused by purgative and relieve flatulence.
Taking clove in combination with other spices and sendha namak relieves indigestion, vomiting and quenching thirst.
Taking two ground cloves put in warm water eliminates nausea, gas and indigestion.
Chewing clove is also useful in nausea.
Chewing 1 clove twice after meals or taking it in sherbat cures all acidic problems.
Taking clove in paan or ¼ tsp. ground clove, little rock salt with lukewarm water after meals relieves flatulence.
Taking a clove lightly roasted in ghee after meals releases all trapped wind in the body.
Taking clove choorana (made by grinding clove, sonth, ajwain and sendha namak 3 gms. each) twice a day cures all digestive problems and increases appetite.
Weakness after Illness
Taking clove boiled water (water in which the cloves have been boiled) imparts resistance to fight against infections and ailments.
Cough, Throat Problems
Sucking the juice of roasted clove cures itching of throat.
Keeping clove in mouth releases trapped phlegm and eliminates foul smell of the mouth.
Taking little powder of clove and anar rind (in equal quantity) mixed with honey 2-3 times a day cures coughing.
Sucking 2 cloves roasted on tawa eliminates phlegm.
Whooping Cough
Taking roasted ground clove with honey gives relief.
Hoarseness of Throat
Chewing cloves and sucking its juice soothens vocal chords.
Chewing clove with mishri is also beneficial.
Keeping a clove (roasted on the flame of a candle) in mouth eliminates foul smell of breath and cures sore-throat.
Headache
Applying paste of clove or clove oil cures headache.
Taking clove water (cloves boiled in 1 cup water till half is left) twice a day cures headache.
Hiccups
Taking water of 1-2 cloves (cloves soaked in lukewarm water) relieves hiccups.
Influenza
Taking ¼ tsp. powdered cloves and peepali, ½ tsp. ginger juice with a tsp. honey 3-4 times a day gives relief.
Pneumonia
Taking paan leaf with a little clove oil spread on it and mishri early in the morning and paan with a clove after meals clears congestion and brings relief.
Fever
Taking powder of 1 clove with warm water 3 times a day checks fever.
Asthma
Taking 3-4 roasted cloves before going to bed eliminates congestion in the chest and gives relief in breathing.
Worms
Taking clove water whenever thirsty throws out worms.
Chewing one clove after dinner helps in throwing out worms.
Strangury
Taking clove with water 2-3 times a day helps in curing this.
Ulcer
Applying paste of cloves and haldi cures ulcer.
Rheumatic pain
Applying paste of cloves on affected part gives relief.
Excessive Thirst
Drinking boiled hot water of cloves quenches excessive thirst.
Teeth Care and Problems
Rubbing the teeth with ground clove and lemon juice cures toothache and makes the teeth shining.
Gargling with clove water (3-4 cloves boiled in 1 glass of water) 2-3 times a day cures toothache.
Pressing cotton soaked in clove oil on the cavity eliminates pain.
Applying clove oil on affected tooth before going to bed for some days checks foul smell and cures pyrrhoea.
Taking roasted clove strengthens gums and teeth.
