Many years ago, a man named Nicholas lived in a seaside town named Myra. Ever since Nicholas was a small child, he studied hard, prayed often and followed God by helping the poor. Old John too lived in Myra. He was so poor that he had no money for his three daughters’ marriages. One late night, Nicholas crept to John’s home and threw a bag of gold through the window. It was enough to pay for his eldest daughter’s wedding. John was overjoyed. His daughter was married off happily but John was still left with two younger daughters. Nicholas again threw a bag of gold through the window. John wondered who was helping him and why. So, he locked the windows and watched the door. The third time, Nicholas dropped the bag of gold right down the chimney! Thus, he came to be known as St. Nicholas or Santa Claus because he never expected anything in return for his help.
